It all started when the web was just starting to get popular.  People were buying websites.  .com’s were on the rise.  Crap, I remember some people tell me their web address on sales calls and I would have to reply “sir that’s an email address.”  Funny but true.  The long and short many of those beginning websites just didn’t pan out the way many owners had hoped.

Most of us in marketing knew the internet was not a lost hope as this media was just getting ready to go.  How were we going to keep clients interested long enough to not throw in the towel to their “new” websites?  PPC (Pay Per Click), Adwords, Search Engine Marketing.  That’s what we told them.  Buy sponsored links!  That’s the ticket to getting your website ranked number one.  Because the bottom line for most of all these business owners was that they just wanted to get seen.

Getting seen.  The reason why most of us have websites in the first place.  Getting seen with out having to spend all the money is even better…right?!  Some firms out there will still try to sell you ad campaigns without even giving you real results.  They sell PPC campaigns and layer it on top of a crappy designed website.  Believe it or not, these firms are very successful.  I could not solely sell PPC as I know that Organic Search is the best way to be ranked online and if done properly you will notice your website acquire more and more key word phases as the results and position gain better results…Like the first page!

Website design is the first step to getting your website seen on the search engines.  It’s the very first step.  It’s amazing to me the people out there that get sold on the idea of being in the sponsored results, get a little bit of traffic, stop and every all goes away.  I’m not saying that PPC is a no do anytime, as adding PPC to a marketing campaign can be beneficial.  However, there are steps in play that need done first for optimize organically.  The reason why I am typing on this blog is to help educate people looking for better marketing results to their businesses.

After leaving corporate in 2008 and going back to school for web design it was very easy for me to breeze though it at the top of my class.  My corporate training and formal educational training just clicked together like pieces of a puzzle.  I saw my passion for web development really go towards organic search or otherwise known as the natural results; getting ranked on the top of search engines.   So much that I am constantly learning from the search engines the best practices and software to use, all of which I pass on to my clients.
